Area of Science:

  • Dermatology
  • Otolaryngology
  • Pathology

Background:

  • Angiolymphoid hyperplasia with eosinophilia (AH E) is a rare vascular proliferation.
  • It is often misdiagnosed and poorly recognized in otolaryngology literature.
  • AH E typically presents as cutaneous nodules in the head and neck, particularly the external ear.

Observation:

  • Patients may exhibit variable lymphadenopathy and peripheral eosinophilia.
  • The condition can mimic neoplastic processes, leading to diagnostic challenges.
  • Lesions are often multilobulated and poorly delineated, complicating surgical excision.

Findings:

  • Three cases of AH E are presented, highlighting its unusual presentation.
  • Literature review underscores the rarity and diagnostic difficulties associated with AH E.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Local recurrence is frequent following surgical intervention.
  • Implications:

    • Increased awareness of AH E among otolaryngologists is crucial for accurate diagnosis.
    • Avoiding overtreatment is essential due to the benign nature of AH E.
    • Understanding the challenges in surgical management can guide treatment strategies and patient counseling.
