  • A randomized controlled trial compared the enhanced internet (EI; N=25) program with standard internet (SI; N=28) and publicly available websites.
  • Participants (N=53) were randomized to either the EI or SI group.
  • Main Results:

    • The enhanced internet (EI) group significantly increased physical activity (PA) compared to the standard internet (SI) group at 3 months (186.0 min/wk vs. 57.3 min/wk; p=.03).
    • Between-group differences in PA were not significant at 6 months (176.8 min/wk vs. 133.5 min/wk; p=.44).
    • EI participants maintained PA from 3 to 6 months, while the SI group showed increased PA during this period.

    Conclusions:

    • The enhanced internet (EI) program was initially effective in improving physical activity (PA) levels compared to standard websites.
    • The observed differences in PA levels between groups were not maintained at the 6-month follow-up.
    • Future research should focus on identifying internet features that effectively promote long-term PA maintenance.
