[Natural killer activity in patients with myoma of the uterus]

The levels of serum estradiol (E2), progesterone (P) and natural killer activity were determined in 19 women with uterine myomas and the results compared with those of 13 normal women. The P level in the myomatous group was not significantly different from the normal group (P greater than 0.05). However, the E2 level was significantly higher and that NK activity was significantly lower in patients with myoma of uterus, as compared with those of the normal women (P less than 0.01). The author suggested that decreased NK activity may be an important factor in the pathogenesis of myoma of uterus.
