Background:

Kidney transplantation offers superior quality of life and survival for end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients.
The study focuses on initial experiences with living donor kidney transplantation (LDKT).

Purpose of the Study:

To present the initial outcomes of 14 living donor kidney transplantations.
To evaluate graft survival and patient recovery in the early post-transplant period.

Main Methods:

Retrospective analysis of 14 LDKT recipients and their donors.
Detailed clinical history, examination, and follow-up in a transplant clinic.

Main Results:

100% graft survival observed during the mean follow-up of 125 days.
Mean recipient age was 27.8 years; 11 males and 3 females.
Early graft function confirmed by immediate urine output; mean hospital discharge on postoperative day 8.

Conclusions:

Living donor kidney transplantation demonstrated excellent early graft survival.
Immediate initiation of kidney transplant programs is recommended to decrease waiting list numbers.
