Background:

The global healthcare sector is increasingly adopting new technologies and information and communication technology (ICT).
The Swedish public healthcare and social care sectors are undergoing similar technological transformations.
Understanding staff expectations is vital before implementing new electronic applications.

Purpose of the Study:

To describe staff expectations before the implementation of new electronic applications in a changing healthcare organization.
To explore the impact of technological changes on the caregiving process.

Main Methods:

A qualitative research approach was employed.
Group interviews were conducted with 23 staff members, divided into 5 groups.
Latent content analysis was used to analyze the transcribed interview data.

Main Results:

A central theme identified was "taking standpoint today in relation to the past."
This theme emerged from discussions in three key areas: "distance holding," "ruled by the organization," and "health care development in the future."
New restraints imposed on staff were found to affect the caregiving process.

Conclusions:

Managers must differentiate between revolutionary and evolutionary changes.
The psychological impact of change on staff should be considered during the implementation process.
Effective change management requires acknowledging staff perspectives and the effects on caregiving.
