This study demonstrates a novel polarization-independent reflection filter using orthogonally crossed cavity-resonator-integrated guided-mode resonance filters (CRIGFs). The device achieves high-efficiency narrowband reflection with a small aperture for optical applications.
Area of Science:
- Photonics and Optical Engineering
- Nanophotonics
- Waveguide Technology
Background:
- Guided-mode resonance (GMR) filters offer narrowband spectral characteristics.
- Achieving polarization-independent operation in GMR filters is challenging.
- Cavity-resonator-integrated guided-mode resonance filters (CRIGFs) show potential for high-efficiency reflection.
Purpose of the Study:
- To develop a polarization-independent reflection filter.
- To achieve high-efficiency narrowband reflection using CRIGFs with a small aperture.
- To demonstrate the orthogonal integration of two CRIGFs.
Main Methods:
- Design and fabrication of an SiO2-based CRIGF device.
- Integration of two CRIGFs in an orthogonal configuration.
- Experimental characterization of the reflection spectrum and polarization dependence.
Main Results:
- Successful demonstration of orthogonally crossed CRIGFs.
- Achieved narrowband polarization-independent reflection spectrum.
- Fabricated device operates around 850 nm with a 10 μm aperture.
Conclusions:
- Orthogonally crossed CRIGFs enable polarization-independent spectral response.
- The proposed device is suitable for high-efficiency narrowband reflection applications.
- This integration method offers a pathway for compact and efficient optical filters.
