A man developed dacryops (tear duct cysts) after periocular trauma. Surgical removal of the larger left cyst was successful, while the right cyst was left untreated.

Area of Science:

  • Ophthalmology
  • Orbital Surgery

Background:

  • Periocular trauma can lead to complications affecting the lacrimal system.
  • Dacryops are rare cystic lesions of the lacrimal gland or ducts.

Observation:

  • A 35-year-old male presented with bilateral lacrimal fossa masses.
  • History of left and right periocular trauma 8 months and 5 years prior.
  • Marked dacryops, left greater than right, confirmed by orbital CT.

Findings:

  • Orbital CT confirmed bilateral dacryops.
  • Successful surgical excision of the left dacryops was performed.

Implications:

  • Dacryops formation is a potential sequela of periocular trauma.
  • Surgical intervention is effective for symptomatic dacryops.
