Summary

Second-hand smoke exposure may impair time-based prospective memory (PM) in non-smokers. This cognitive function, crucial for daily life, was significantly lower in those exposed to SHS compared to unexposed individuals.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare objective prospective memory performance between never-smokers exposed to SHS, current smokers, and never-smokers with no SHS exposure.
  • To investigate the impact of SHS on different types of PM tasks (time-based and event-based).

  • An existing groups design compared three groups: SHS-exposed never-smokers, current smokers, and non-exposed never-smokers.
