Area of Science:

  • Pediatric Orthopedics
  • Surgical Innovation
  • Biomechanical Engineering

Background:

  • Proximal femur osteotomies and femoral neck fracture fixation in children are complex procedures.
  • Existing methods present challenges in achieving stable fixation and optimal outcomes.
  • The development of specialized implants is crucial for improving surgical safety and efficacy.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To introduce and evaluate the LCP Paediatric Hip Plate for surgical correction of proximal femur pathologies.
  • To assess the safety, applicability, and outcomes of using this device in pediatric hip surgery.
  • To critically analyze the surgical technique and clinical performance of the LCP Paediatric Hip Plate.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective analysis of 30 hip operations performed between 2006 and 2008.

Surgical Fixation of Sternal Fractures: Preoperative Planning and a Safe Surgical Technique Using Locked Titanium Plates and Depth Limited Drilling

Published on: January 5, 2015

  • Inclusion of patients with diverse diagnoses including hip dysplasia, femoral neck fractures, and post-traumatic deformities.
  • Evaluation of perioperative details, postoperative outcomes, and complications.
  • Main Results:

    • The LCP Paediatric Hip Plate demonstrated excellent intraoperative handling in all cases.
    • Postoperative radiographs confirmed planned corrections in 21 out of 22 patients.
    • A low complication rate was observed, with only two cases requiring revision for screw loosening.

    Conclusions:

    • The LCP Paediatric Hip Plate is a safe and effective device for pediatric proximal femur conditions and femoral neck fracture fixation.
    • The device offers excellent results and a low complication rate, making it a valuable tool for pediatric orthopedic surgeons.
    • Further research with larger cohorts is recommended to fully elucidate the risk profile of clinically significant complications.
