Loss of renal function in the elderly Italians: a physiologic or pathologic process?

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) progresses more slowly in older adults compared to younger individuals. This suggests many elderly patients with CKD may not reach end-stage renal disease, reducing the need for renal replacement therapy.
