Serum angiogenin levels are lower in middle-aged adults with type 1 diabetes compared to controls. However, higher angiogenin levels are observed in those with diabetic nephropathy or a smoking habit.

- Overt diabetic nephropathy and smoking are associated with elevated angiogenin levels in this population.
- Further research may elucidate the role of angiogenin in type 1 diabetes complications.
