Summary

Computer-assisted tumor surgery (CATS) using image fusion enables precise bone resections for pelvic and sacral tumors. This technique shows promise for complex joint-preserving surgeries, though further studies are needed.

Main Results:

  • All resected specimens demonstrated clear tumor margins.
  • Achieved bone resections closely matched planned resections (≤ 2 mm difference).
  • Three of four local recurrences occurred in sacral tumors; mean MSTS score was 28.

Conclusions:

  • CATS with image fusion facilitates accurate bone resection execution.
  • This technique may benefit pelvic, sacral, and complex joint-preserving tumor surgeries.
  • Long-term follow-up comparative studies are required to validate CATS efficacy.
