Vitamin D deficiency is common in Saudi Arabia, even with ample sunlight. This study found that active vitamin D [1,25(OH)2D] levels were normal in deficient individuals, suggesting new clinical cutoffs are needed.

- The study suggests establishing local clinical cutoffs for vitamin D to identify individuals at risk for secondary hyperparathyroidism and bone diseases.
