Small ubiquitin-like modifier (SUMO)-1 regulates beta-secretase (BACE1) levels, impacting amyloid precursor protein processing and beta-amyloid (Aβ) generation in Alzheimer's disease. SUMO1 is a potential therapeutic target for reducing BACE1 accumulation.
