Summary

Desensitizing toothpastes reduce dentin permeability by partially occluding dentinal tubules. Toothpastes containing strontium chloride, potassium citrate, or potassium nitrate showed greater efficacy than fluoride toothpaste or distilled water in blocking tubules.
