  • Movement patterns were analyzed by three experts using a checklist; stroke frequency and length were also calculated.

    • No significant correlation was found between swimming time and stroke frequency or stroke length.
    • Significant correlations were observed between swimming time and the total and component scores of the movement pattern checklist.
    • The holistic movement pattern analysis proved more effective than traditional metrics.

    Conclusions:

    • Assessing swimming efficiency in children learning the front-crawl stroke is better achieved by analyzing their complete movement pattern.
    • Holistic biomechanical analysis offers a more sensitive and accurate evaluation for novice swimmers.
    • This finding suggests a shift in focus for coaching and evaluating young swimmers.
