Summary

Partial nephrectomy (PN) offers better outcomes than radical nephrectomy (RN) for small kidney tumors. A new PN closure technique using bovine pericardium enhances strength and hemostasis, potentially improving patient recovery.

Background:

Partial nephrectomy (PN) is increasingly preferred over radical nephrectomy (RN) for small renal masses due to lower morbidity and mortality.
Oncologic outcomes for PN are comparable to RN for tumors less than 7 cm.
Widespread adoption of PN by the general urologic community lags behind academic centers, possibly due to concerns about complication rates, including inadequate closure.

Purpose of the Study:

To introduce and describe a novel technique for partial nephrectomy (PN) closure.
To enhance the strength and hemostasis of PN repairs.
To address potential complications associated with inadequate renal mass excision closure.
