Background:

Enhancing collaboration is key for maternity care success, yet lacks methodological guidance.
This study evaluated a collaborative Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) model involving obstetric doctors and midwives.

Purpose of the Study:

To assess the efficacy of an inter-professional collaborative partnership in maternity care.
To evaluate the Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) model's impact on care consistency and professional satisfaction.

Main Methods:

Retrospective analysis of 12 months of case review meeting notes.
Prospective analysis of 16 meetings, including audio recordings and verbal contributions.
Assessed case discussion frequency, referrals, record-keeping, professional satisfaction, and care consistency against national guidelines.

Main Results:

50% of 337 MGP-booked women were discussed; 35% were referred for obstetric consultation.
Case plans were recorded 97% of the time and adhered to 90% of the time.
High consistency of care (75%) and adherence to guidelines (85%) were achieved, with high professional satisfaction.

Conclusions:

Inter-professional collaboration in the MGP model is highly achievable.
The MGP model effectively supports women of all risk levels through collaboration.
This study encourages wider adoption of collaborative maternity care models.
