Summary

A rare aneurysmal bone cyst in a child

Area of Science:

Background:

  • Aneurysmal bone cysts (ABCs) are uncommon benign bone lesions.
  • Patellar ABCs are exceptionally rare, posing diagnostic and therapeutic challenges.

Observation:

  • A 9-year-old boy presented with chronic knee pain without a history of trauma.
  • Imaging revealed a cystic lesion consistent with an aneurysmal bone cyst of the patella.

Findings:

  • Surgical management involved curettage of the patellar ABC.
  • The cyst cavity was filled with an autologous iliac bone graft.
  • Postoperative follow-up demonstrated successful graft incorporation and excellent functional recovery.
