Summary

Supplementary screw fixation is not necessary for the cementless press-fit elastic RM socket in hip arthroplasty. This study found no significant clinical benefit or improved stability with additional screws, simplifying the procedure.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the stability of a novel cementless titanium-coated elastic monoblock socket.
  • To determine the influence of supplementary screw fixation on socket stability and clinical outcomes.
  • To assess if additional screws are necessary for achieving primary fixation in hip arthroplasty.

Main Methods:

  • A randomized controlled trial involving 37 patients (2006-2008) undergoing hip arthroplasty.
  • Comparison of cementless press-fit sockets with (Group A) and without (Group B) additional screw fixation.
