Acute blood glucose fluctuations significantly impact glutathione and adiponectin levels in type 2 diabetes patients. Lower levels of these antioxidants are associated with greater glycemic variability.

- Long-term glycemic variability assessed by standard deviation (SD) of HbA1c over 2 years. Glutathione and adiponectin levels measured post-CGMS.
Main Results:
- Glutathione levels negatively correlated with MAGE (r = -0.543; P < 0.001).
- Adiponectin levels negatively correlated with MAGE and SD of HbA1c (r = -0.64 and r = -0.55; P < 0.001).
- MAGE independently predicted serum adiponectin and glutathione levels (P = 0.002 and P = 0.004, respectively).
Conclusions:
- Significant associations exist between acute blood glucose variability, glutathione, and adiponectin in type 2 diabetic patients on oral hypoglycemic agents.
