A validated biomarker panel to identify peripheral artery disease.

A novel biomarker panel shows promise for identifying peripheral artery disease (PAD) in at-risk individuals. This panel, combined with clinical data, can help detect PAD more effectively than clinical assessment alone.

- Previous research linked specific biomarkers (β(2)-microglobulin, cystatin C, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein, glucose) to PAD.

- Among 979 evaluable subjects, 8.5% had PAD (n=83).
- The combined model achieved a C-statistic of 0.73 (95% CI 0.67-0.79).
- The model identified 17 of 20 PAD patients missed by clinical assessment alone, performing well even in those without prior PAD history.

- A biomarker panel integrated with clinical assessment shows potential for enhancing PAD detection.
- This approach may improve identification of PAD in individuals at risk.
