Context:

Central pancreatectomy is a complex pancreaticoduodenal surgery.
Limited data exists on its functional outcomes and safety profile.
This study evaluates central pancreatectomy in 7 patients.

Purpose:

To report the authors' experience with central pancreatectomy.
To summarize relevant literature data on the procedure.
To assess the safety and functional outcomes of central pancreatectomy.

Summary:

Seven patients underwent central pancreatectomy for benign/low-grade malignant pancreatic neoplasms or rupture.
The most common technique involved Roux-en-Y anastomosis with suture closure of the proximal pancreas.
Three complications occurred (37%), with no reoperations or mortality; exocrine and endocrine functions remained stable.

Impact:

Central pancreatectomy demonstrates a favorable safety profile.
The procedure yields excellent functional results when indications and techniques are appropriate.
This study contributes to the understanding of central pancreatectomy's role in pancreatic surgery.
