Three novel lanthanide-based 2D metal-organic frameworks were synthesized. These frameworks show excellent catalytic activity for cyanosilylation reactions under solvent-free conditions, highlighting their potential in green chemistry applications.
Area of Science:
- Materials Science
- Inorganic Chemistry
- Catalysis
Background:
- Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are crystalline porous materials with diverse applications.
- Lanthanide-based MOFs are of particular interest due to their unique electronic and magnetic properties.
- Developing efficient catalysts for organic transformations, especially under solvent-free conditions, is crucial for sustainable chemistry.
Purpose of the Study:
- To synthesize and characterize novel 2D lanthanide-based metal-organic frameworks.
- To investigate the structural diversity and topological properties of these new MOFs.
- To evaluate the catalytic performance of the synthesized MOFs in cyanosilylation reactions.
Main Methods:
- Hydrothermal synthesis was employed to prepare three Ln-based 2D MOFs: [Ln(3,5-DSB)(Phen)] for Ln = La, Pr, Nd.
- Structural characterization was performed to determine their 2D structural types and net topologies.
- Catalytic activity was assessed for the cyanosilylation reaction under solvent-free conditions.
Main Results:
- Two distinct 2D structural types and different net topologies were identified among the synthesized MOFs.
- The La and Pr compounds are isostructural, featuring a uninodal 5-connected SP 2-periodic net (6,3).
- The Nd compound exhibits a binodal 3- and 6-connected kgd net.
- All three novel MOFs demonstrated excellent catalytic activities in the cyanosilylation reaction.
Conclusions:
- The successful synthesis of novel Ln-based 2D MOFs with diverse structures and topologies.
- The identified MOFs are effective heterogeneous catalysts for cyanosilylation reactions.
- These findings contribute to the development of advanced MOF materials for catalytic applications in green chemistry.
