Overlooked issues and unique perspectives on the DSM-5: Introduction to the special series

The publication of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (5th ed.; DSM-5) will transform the way in which personality disorders are conceptualized and diagnosed. Much consideration has been given to the proposed changes and their implications for clinicians and researchers. In this special series, Personality Disorders: Theory, Research, and Treatment adds to this conversation by presenting unique perspectives and issues that have received less attention, but that warrant consideration, as the publication of DSM-5 approaches. Our introduction provides an overview of the key issues in four articles in this special series, considering them within the context of the proposed DSM-5 revisions.
