Bullying

A modern form of aggression is bullying. As you learn in your study of child development, socializing and playing with other children is beneficial for children’s psychological development. However, as you may have experienced as a child, not all play behavior has positive outcomes. Some children are aggressive and want to play roughly. Other children are selfish and do not want to share toys. One form of negative social interactions among children that has become a national concern is bullying.

Sex Linked Disorders

Like autosomes, sex chromosomes contain a variety of genes necessary for normal body function. When a mutation in one of these genes results in biological deficits, the disorder is considered sex-linked.
Group Polarization01:01

Group Polarization

Group polarization is the strengthening of an original group attitude following the discussion of views within a group (Teger & Pruitt, 1967). • Assessment of offender heterogeneity, motivations, and risk factors.
  • Main Results:

    • Increased availability of child pornography online is directly linked to rising offense rates.
    • Offenders exhibit diverse motivations and risk profiles.
    • Possession of child pornography alone, without prior contact offenses, does not elevate future reoffending risk.

    Conclusions:

    • The internet, particularly peer-to-peer networks, is a major facilitator of child pornography offenses.
    • Understanding offender heterogeneity is crucial for risk assessment.
    • Focusing on additional risk factors is key to predicting crossover to contact sexual offenses.
