Nursing Evaluation

The evaluation stage signals the end of the nursing process. The nurse gathers evaluative data to assess whether or not the patient has attained the expected results. Whereas the nurse collects data in the nursing assessment to identify the patient's health concerns, the evaluation stage data determines if the indicated health issues are resolved. Purpose of the Study:

  • To develop and evaluate simulation scenarios for obstetrical nursing education.
  • Scenarios cover prenatal, labor and delivery, and postpartum phases.
  • To provide tools for student evaluation and identification of weaknesses.

Main Methods:

  • Developed four high-fidelity simulation scenarios: prenatal, labor and delivery I, labor and delivery II, and postpartum.
  • One hundred thirty-eight second-year nursing students participated in the training.
  • Student performance was evaluated using one selected scenario post-training.

Main Results:

  • Student self-confidence significantly increased across all scenarios (P < .001).
  • Higher scores were observed in prenatal and postpartum scenarios compared to labor and delivery.
  • Most students performed relevant actions, but correct execution was a challenge for many.

Conclusions:

  • The developed simulation scenarios are effective for enhancing obstetrical nursing education.
  • The scenarios successfully promote student self-confidence.
  • Further refinement is needed to improve the accuracy of student performance in complex labor and delivery situations.
