Background:

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease primarily affecting synovial joints.
The potential impact of RA on auditory function remains debated, with unclear etiopathogenesis.
Evidence suggests RA may involve the ossicles' synovial joints, potentially affecting hearing.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate the effect of Rheumatoid Arthritis on auditory function.
To observe changes in hearing among RA patients compared to controls.

Main Methods:

The study included 25 patients diagnosed with classical or definite Rheumatoid Arthritis.
A control group of 16 healthy individuals was recruited.
Patients with pre-existing ear conditions were excluded from the study.

Main Results:

Rheumatoid Arthritis may lead to conductive hearing loss.
Abnormal otoadmittance was observed in RA patients.
Sensorineural hearing loss can also be associated with Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Conclusions:

Rheumatoid Arthritis can adversely affect auditory function.
Further research is needed to elucidate the precise mechanisms linking RA and hearing impairment.
