Summary

Background:

Otitis media poses a significant health burden in India, affecting an estimated 50 million cases.
Approximately 2000 Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) surgeons conduct around 120,000 middle ear microsurgeries annually.

Purpose of the Study:

To assess the current landscape of middle ear microsurgery practices among ENT surgeons in India.
To identify variations in surgical procedures, infrastructure, and outcomes across different regions and experience levels.

Main Methods:

A comprehensive questionnaire was distributed to 2000 ENT surgeons across India.
Data from 400 respondents were analyzed, focusing on surgeon demographics, infrastructure, surgical techniques, results, and complications.

Conclusions:

Standardization of myringoplasty is evident, but ossiculoplasty and stapes surgery need wider dissemination.
There is a clear need for technology transfer programs, particularly from Southern and Western to Northern and Eastern India, to improve surgical access and outcomes.
