  • Surgical Innovation

Background:

  • Functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) transformed sinusitis management.
  • The Messerklinger technique emphasized mucosal preservation and disease clearance.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To introduce balloon sinuplasty, a novel minimally invasive technique for sinusitis.
  • To report the initial surgical experience with balloon sinuplasty in India.

Main Methods:

  • Utilizing balloon sinuplasty, a technology similar to balloon angioplasty.
  • Applying an FDA-approved technique for endoscopic sinus surgery.

Main Results:

  • Balloon sinuplasty has demonstrated excellent outcomes in Western countries.
  • This study marks the first application of this technology in India.

Conclusions:

  • Balloon sinuplasty represents an advancement in endoscopic sinus surgery.
  • This technique offers an efficient, non-invasive option for sinusitis treatment.
