Abstract:
In the title compound, C(16)H(13)NOS, the central benzene ring makes dihedral angles of 3.25 (7) and 41.32 (8)°, respectively, with the thia-zole and phenyl rings. In the crystal, O-H⋯N hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into a chain along the c axis. A weak C-H⋯O inter-action further connects the chains into a layer parallel to the ac plane.

One of the convenient methods for the preparation of aldehydes and ketones is via hydration of alkynes. Hydroboration-oxidation of alkynes is an indirect hydration reaction in which an alkyne is treated with borane followed by oxidation with alkaline peroxide to form an enol that rapidly converts into an aldehyde or a ketone.
