Hormonal Regulation of the Menstrual Cycle

The ovarian cycle regulates endometrial changes throughout a single menstrual cycle via the coordinated action of gonadotrophin-releasing hormone (GnRH) and gonadotrophins.
At puberty, GnRH begins a pulsatile release pattern, which triggers the anterior pituitary gland to secrete follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). Summary

This pilot study found that Lady Prelox®, a dietary supplement, significantly improved sexual function in post-menopausal women. The supplement demonstrated greater efficacy than placebo in enhancing desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction, and reducing pain.

Background:

Menopause is associated with changes in sexual function.
Dietary supplements are being explored for managing menopausal symptoms.
Female sexual dysfunction (FSD) impacts quality of life.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the efficacy of Lady Prelox® in improving sexual function in post-menopausal women.
To assess the impact of Lady Prelox® on the domains of the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI).

Main Methods:

Pilot, single-blinded study with two groups: Lady Prelox® (n=40) and placebo (n=43).
Participants were generally healthy, post-menopausal women aged approximately 50 years.
The Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) was used to measure sexual function over an eight-week period.

Main Results:

Lady Prelox® significantly increased total FSFI scores from baseline (44.6) to 70.9 at 4 weeks and 71.7 at 8 weeks.
The placebo group showed non-significant increases in total FSFI scores (44.1 at baseline to 47.4 at 8 weeks).
Lady Prelox® demonstrated significantly greater efficacy than placebo (P<0.05) across all six FSFI domains.

Conclusions:

Lady Prelox® shows promise as a new treatment option for women with moderate sexual function impairment.
Further research with larger cohorts, including premenopausal and perimenopausal women, is warranted.
The supplement was well-tolerated with no reported adverse effects.
