Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare driving errors between older male and female drivers using a CDE.
  • To identify predictors of driving errors and road test outcomes specific to gender.
  • To investigate the influence of gender and age on driving performance in older adults.

Main Methods:

  • A sample of 294 community-dwelling older drivers completed a CDE administered by a certified specialist.
  • Driving errors were analyzed for specific types and total count, comparing male and female participants.
  • Statistical analyses identified predictors of road test failure, considering gender and age groups.

Main Results:

  • No significant differences were found in the number of specific or total driving errors between older males and females.
  • Education, driving experience, Useful Field of View™ (UFOV), Rapid Paced Walk Test (RPW), and Mini-Mental State Exam (MMSE) scores predicted road test failure for both genders.
