Area of Science:

  • Immunodermatology
  • Infectious Diseases
  • Autoimmune Disorders

Background:

  • Brucellosis is a bacterial infection with diverse clinical manifestations.
  • Pemphigus is a group of rare autoimmune blistering diseases affecting the skin and mucous membranes.

Observation:

  • A patient with brucellosis developed induced pemphigus.
  • The pemphigus symptoms resolved completely following antibiotic treatment for brucellosis.

Findings:

  • Antibiotic therapy for brucellosis achieved definitive remission of pemphigus.
  • Corticosteroid treatment was not required for pemphigus remission.

Implications:

  • Brucellosis may trigger autoimmune conditions like pemphigus.
  • This case suggests a potential autoimmune mechanism underlying pemphigus induced by brucellosis.
  • Highlights the importance of considering infectious triggers in autoimmune diseases.
