Preferential X chromosome inactivation (XCI) is not a reliable indicator for identifying BRCA mutations or assessing cancer risk. However, XCI frequency increases with age and is linked to chemotherapy, suggesting further research in cancer patients.

- The association of increasing preferential XCI with age and chemotherapy warrants further investigation in other female cancer patient groups to identify potential X-linked loci involved in cell survival.
