    Summary

    Laparoscopic adrenalectomy is a feasible and reproducible surgical technique for removing adrenal gland tumors. This study shows its effectiveness for various endocrine disorders, excluding invasive carcinomas or large masses.

    Background:

    • Laparoscopic adrenalectomy is the standard surgical approach for adrenal gland removal.
    • This report details a 4-year experience with this technique in an endocrine and general surgery unit.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of laparoscopic adrenalectomy.
    • To assess outcomes for various adrenal pathologies treated with this minimally invasive approach.

    Main Methods:

    • 24 lateral transperitoneal laparoscopic adrenalectomies were performed.
    • Indications included aldosteronoma, pheochromocytoma, adenomas, adrenal cysts, adrenocortical carcinomas, and metastasis.

    Main Results:

    • Successful laparoscopic adrenalectomy was achieved in 22 out of 24 patients.
    • One complication occurred; three patients had associated laparoscopic procedures.
    • Operative times ranged from 100 to 240 minutes, with shorter hospital stays for laparoscopic procedures compared to open/converted cases.

    Conclusions:

    • Laparoscopic adrenalectomy is technically feasible and reproducible for endocrine disorders.
    • The technique is effective for most adrenal pathologies, with limitations for invasive carcinoma or large masses.
    • The unit aims to become a high-volume referral center for laparoscopic adrenal surgery.
