Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) risk factors are being investigated in the CLARITY study. After accounting for socioeconomic status, JIA cases and controls show similar early life characteristics, suggesting no major environmental differences.

Cases showed reduced exposure to active parental smoking, potentially due to disease-related behavioral changes.
Conclusions:
- The CLARITY study demonstrates that JIA cases and controls are well-matched on basic epidemiological characteristics when socio-economic status is considered.
- CLARITY provides a valuable platform for future research into the environmental and biological risk factors contributing to JIA development.
