Summary

Background:

  • A 72-year-old female patient with a history of cervical cancer treated with hysterectomy and radiotherapy presented with gait disturbance.
  • The patient was diagnosed with lymphangiosarcoma, a rare soft tissue sarcoma, one year prior to referral for palliative care.

Observation:

  • During diagnostic workup for lymphangiosarcoma, significantly elevated coagulation factor VIII plasma activity was detected, measuring over 201%.
  • Immunohistochemical analysis of the tumor specimen revealed positivity for factor VIII-related antigen.

Findings:

  • This case represents the first reported instance of high coagulation factor VIII plasma activity in a patient with lymphangiosarcoma.
  • The elevated factor VIII levels and tumor antigen positivity suggest a potential link between the neoplasm and the hemostatic abnormality.
