Abnormal striatal dopamine transmission in schizophrenia

The dopamine (DA) hypothesis of schizophrenia is supported by neuroimaging studies showing increased DA synthesis and D2 receptor density in patients. These striatal DA abnormalities may serve as an endophenotype and biomarker for psychosis risk.
