When T cells with CD4 markers are activated, they give rise to two types of effector cells: helper T cells and regulatory T cells. Meanwhile, T cells with CD8 markers differentiate into effector cytotoxic T cells. Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the effect of specific craniocervical myofascial techniques on immunological variables.
  • To assess changes in lymphocyte subsets following manual therapy.

Main Methods:

  • Thirty-nine healthy males were randomized into an experimental (myofascial techniques) or control (rest) group.
  • The experimental group received suboccipital muscle release, intracranial ventricle compression, and deep cervical fascia release.
  • Immunological markers, including CD3, CD4, CD8, CD19, and NK cells, were measured pre- and post-intervention.

Main Results:

  • A significant increase in CD19 (B lymphocyte) counts was observed in the experimental group post-intervention compared to baseline.
  • No significant changes in CD3, CD4, CD8, or NK cell counts were found between groups.
  • The control group showed no significant changes in any measured immunological markers.

Conclusions:

  • Craniocervical myofascial induction techniques can modulate immunological variables.
  • Specifically, these techniques led to a significant increase in B lymphocyte counts 20 minutes post-application.
