Area of Science:

  • Plastic Surgery
  • Reconstructive Surgery
  • Dermatology

Background:

  • Paramedian forehead flaps, supplied by the supratrochlear artery, are effective for nasal reconstruction.
  • Standard techniques can result in noticeable scarring and eyebrow asymmetry.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To introduce and describe the modified bilobed forehead flap technique.
  • To address the limitations of traditional forehead flap methods in nasal reconstruction.

Main Methods:

  • A modified bilobed flap technique utilizing the supratrochlear artery.
  • Incisions are made parallel to natural forehead lines on the contralateral side of the lesion.
  • An additional half-thickness flap is used to prevent eyebrow elevation.

Main Results:

  • The modified technique aims to mask scars by aligning with natural forehead lines.
  • It effectively prevents ipsilateral eyebrow elevation.
  • Secondary benefits include forehead and bilateral eyebrow lifting.

Conclusions:

  • The modified bilobed forehead flap technique offers an improved approach to nasal reconstruction.
  • It enhances aesthetic outcomes by minimizing scarring and asymmetry.
  • The technique provides additional cosmetic benefits such as eyebrow and forehead lifting.
