Documented studies have indicated that sleep loss occurs in women during the third trimester of pregnancy. This study quantified the third trimester and intrapartal sleep of 28 primigravid women to identify the relationship between sleep loss and the presence of anxiety, hostility, and depression on the first postpartum day. The study sample reported an increase in third-trimester sleep but significant intrapartal sleep loss. A computation of Pearson's correlation coefficient indicated no significant relationship between sleep loss and moods of anxiety, hostility, and depression.
