The effects of varied environmental stimulation on the performance of subnormal children

The present experiment was carried out to assess the applicability of previous experimental results to training situations. It would not appear to provide any concrete evidence for or against the use of environments lowin extraneous stimulation, but rather suggests that low stimulus conditions, when unfamiliar or lacking in familiar social stimulation, may produce harmful effects on performance. Indeed, the essential result of the present experiment is to show that much more careful experimental investigation is required before embarking on the wholesale structuring of training environments for specialized groups of children.
