To identify and agree upon essential continuing professional development (CPD) requirements for dentists within the European Union.
To report on the consensus process and outcomes of the 'DentCPD' project.

A three-stage consensus process involving dental educators and practitioners.
Online survey of 143 dental educators and paper-based questionnaire to 411 practitioners.
Discussion and proposal at the Association for Dental Education (ADEE) 2011 Lifelong Learning special interest group (SIG).
