  • Despite global efforts, leprosy persists as a significant public health issue due to ongoing transmission.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To review and analyze global leprosy data from WHO reports in 2000, 2005, and 2010.
  • To assess trends in leprosy prevalence and case detection rates (CDR) over a decade.

Main Methods:

  • Analysis of WHO leprosy data from 148 reporting countries/territories.
  • Comparison of prevalence rates and CDR between 2000-2010 and 1999-2009.

Main Results:

  • Most countries showed reduced leprosy prevalence and CDR, with varying rates of decline.
  • Thirty-six countries exceeded the 1 per 10,000 prevalence threshold, and 32 exceeded the 9 per 100,000 CDR threshold.
