Targeted Cancer Therapies02:57

Targeted Cancer Therapies

The targeted cancer therapies, also known as “molecular targeted therapies,” take advantage of the molecular and genetic differences between the cancer cells and the normal cells. It needs a thorough understanding of the cancer cells to develop drugs that can target specific molecular aspects that drive the growth, progression, and spread of cancer cells without affecting the growth and survival of other normal cells in the body.
There are several types of targeted therapies against specific...

Area of Science:

  • Oncology
  • Urology

Background:

  • The first European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Consensus Conference focused on prostate cancer.
  • A multidisciplinary panel of experts convened to address key clinical questions.

Framework:

  • The conference addressed four core areas: diagnosis and staging, early localized disease, advanced localized disease, and systemic disease.
  • Recommendations were developed based on a comprehensive review of relevant scientific literature.

Implementation:

  • Expert panel prepared clinically relevant questions prior to the conference.
  • The conference involved in-depth discussion and development of consensus-based recommendations.

Implications:

  • Provides evidence-based guidance for prostate cancer management.
  • Aims to improve patient outcomes through standardized care.
  • Highlights the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration in oncology.
