Pancreatic duct stenting provided symptom relief for patients with malignancy, chronic pancreatitis, and abscesses. While challenging to evaluate drainage efficiency, most patients experienced significant benefits from this endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) procedure.

Area of Science:

  • Gastroenterology
  • Interventional Endoscopy

Context:

  • Pancreatic duct stenting is an infrequently reported procedure.
  • Limited data exists on its efficacy and safety.

Purpose:

  • To evaluate the outcomes of endoprothetic stenting in patients with various pancreatic duct conditions.

Summary:

  • Twelve patients underwent pancreatic duct stenting.
  • Symptomatic relief was observed in patients with pancreatic malignancy, chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic abscess, postoperative fistula, and pancreatic duct stones.
  • Two patients experienced minor complications.

Impact:

  • Pancreatic duct stenting appears to offer significant symptomatic benefits for a range of pancreatic conditions.
  • Further research is needed to fully assess the efficiency of pancreatic drainage and long-term outcomes.
