Nursing Evaluation01:15

Nursing Evaluation

The evaluation stage signals the end of the nursing process. The nurse gathers evaluative data to assess whether or not the patient has attained the expected results. Whereas the nurse collects data in the nursing assessment to identify the patient's health concerns, the evaluation stage data determines if the indicated health issues are resolved. Evaluative data collection includes two sections: the data acquired to evaluate patient outcomes and the time criteria for data collection.

Guidelines for Writing Outcome01:11

Guidelines for Writing Outcome

When developing expected outcomes for a patient care plan, the nurse should adhere to the following recommendations:
Patient outcomes reflect the patient's response to the goal rather than what the nurse aims to achieve. Terminology should be observable and measurable to avoid the reader's interpretation. The desired outcome should be realistic and achievable in the designated care timeframe. Expected outcomes should align with adjunctive therapies. The outcome should enhance care evaluation by...

Area of Science:

  • Rehabilitation research
  • Assistive technology outcomes
  • Human-computer interaction

Background:

  • Assistive technology (AT) devices significantly impact users' daily lives.
  • Understanding user-valued outcomes is crucial for effective AT development and provision.
  • The device acquisition process can present challenges for AT users.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To explore the most valued outcome domains of assistive technology (AT) devices by users.
  • To identify factors within the device acquisition process that influence AT outcomes.
  • To inform future AT research and practice by incorporating consumer perspectives.

Main Methods:

  • Conducted focus groups with 24 adult AT users across diverse geographic locations in the USA.
  • Employed experienced AT practitioners as moderators using a nominal group facilitation technique.
  • Qualitative analysis of discussions to identify key themes and outcome domains.

Main Results:

  • Users prioritize AT outcomes related to independence, subjective well-being, and participation in work and school.
  • The AT device acquisition process was characterized by lengthy frustration and variable service provider quality.
  • Key outcome domains and acquisition factors emerged more clearly when the term "outcomes" was omitted from questions.

Conclusions:

  • Future AT outcomes studies must report on participation impacts, provision costs, and service delivery processes.
  • Incorporating consumer perspectives and avoiding jargon in research methodologies will strengthen future studies.
  • AT research and practice should prioritize user-valued outcomes and streamline the acquisition process for improved consumer experiences.
