Gender differences in health practices of black couples with a hypertensive spouse

Black couples with a hypertensive spouse completed the Health-Promotion Lifestyle Profile (HPLP). When demographic variables and HPLP subscale scores were correlated no significant differences were found between hypertensives and non-hypertensives. Significant gender differences were noted on the HPLP subscales, with women having significantly higher scores on nutrition and social support. The sample was below average on the majority of the HPLP subscales.
