  • Group walking interventions demonstrated a statistically significant medium effect size (d = 0.52) in increasing physical activity.
  • Moderator analyses indicated larger effects in lower-quality studies, longer follow-up periods (>6 months), mixed-gender, and older adult target groups.

Conclusions:

  • Group walking interventions are efficacious in enhancing physical activity levels in adults.
  • Despite heterogeneity and limitations such as reliance on subjective measures and potential publication bias, findings are robust, supported by a large fail-safe N.
  • Further research is needed to explore heterogeneity and optimize intervention design.
